Steve Somers – Operations, Sustainability, Innovation

Steven Somers is the president of Somers & Associates, LLC, a consulting firm based in Tucson, AZ. He has extensive international experience in automotive manufacturing gained during his nearly 40 years with General Motors, from which he retired in 2005.

During his tenure with General Motors , Steve extensively studied and implemented improvement processes used by others. These included lean manufacturing, systems thinking, constraint management and statistically based quality improvement. He used this knowledge to create a learning organization that incorporated these methodologies into a process called Transformational Improvement. By implementing this process, he was able to achieve world class, benchmark results in the following areas at GM’s highest global volume engine plant: V-8 engine launch rate, labor productivity, first time quality and safety improvement.

Mr. Somers received his Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute) and was awarded the Masters of Industrial Engineering from Cornell University.
