Jo Farrington – Operations, Export Licensing & Compliance
Jo Farrington has been involved in Export Licensing and Compliance for over 30 years. Her initiation to this realm occurred while she was employed by a grain bin manufacturing company in Iowa that was trying to send supplies to a subsidiary in Quito, Ecuador. Jo’s experience extends from this non-technical beginning to companies involved in the manufacture and sale of computers, automotive, electronics, telecommunications and encryption as well as in military weaponry that required U.S. Department of State licenses.
As a Global Trade Compliance Manager, she was responsible for providing varied business operations and corporate office functions with expertise in the interpretation and application of both export control regulations and import/customs regulations. She was instrumental in automating the Export process within two companies with multi-millions in export transactions.
She has past involvement with the Maricopa County Community College District via her participation in the development of a course outline for MCC’s International Studies. She was also a member of the original Mesa Community College “Excellence in Education” task force. Jo was appointed to two consecutive four-year terms by the US Department of Commerce to serve on the Computer Systems Technical Advisory Committee (CSTAC) and Information System Technical Advisory Committee (ISTAC).
Jo has shared her expertise as a guest lecturer at several seminars sponsored by the Arizona Depart of Commerce, including past Arizona Global Perspectives Conferences. She also served as guest instructor for the Arizona Bar Association “Risk & Rewards of International Business”
